Christeyns acquires final shares in food hygiene specialist Klenzan
Detergent manufacturer Christeyns UK has purchased a further 50% stake to become the sole owner of Warrington food hygiene specialists Klenzan.
With over 25 years’ experience, Klenzan is one of the most trusted manufacturers of industrial hygiene solutions in the UK. Experts in detergent and disinfectant manufacture, Klenzan uses its innovative chemistry and industry insight to manufacture, design, install and maintain cleaning solutions across the food, brewing and beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical industries.
In 2012 Bradford-based Christeyns UK purchased an initial stake in Klenzan, providing growth opportunities for both parties. Christeyns have now purchased the remaining shares in the company from outgoing Managing Director and founder John Bell who retires in March. Klenzan is a natural addition to the Christeyns group and will strengthen the firms current position in the food hygiene market across both the UK and Europe.
Christeyns Chief Executive Officer – Alain Bostoen confirmed the benefits of the acquisition: “Over the past four years we have developed an excellent partnership with John and the team at Klenzan. The time is now right to bring Klenzan into the Christeyns family and take the company into its next stage of development.”
He continued: “Developing our presence in the food hygiene industry is a key strategic focus and dovetails with our European aspirations and plans. We are really excited about working with the Klenzan team and helping develop their extensive product range.”
Mr. Bell said of the deal: “Christeyns’ expertise and financial strength make them the ideal company to take Klenzan to the next stage in its evolution. I am a little sad but immensely proud to be handing the reins over to Christeyns who have become true friends as well as business partners since we first met, but the time has come for me to take things a little easier.”
Founded 70 years ago in 1946, Christeyns developed into an international detergents and chemicals group in various B2B markets. Still a privately owned family business, based in Ghent, Belgium, Christeyns now employs 850 people in 32 countries worldwide. Over the past decade, the turnover has increased by an average of 17 percent annually, reaching a consolidated total of over 300 million euros in 2016.
With its headquarters in Bradford, Christeyns UK includes dry-cleaning distribution company Alex Reid, cleaning chemicals specialists Cole & Wilson, fault analysis experts DTC, Oscrete construction products as well as Warrington-based Klenzan.
