New plant opened in Brazil

On Monday 5 June, the Belgian chemicals company Christeyns opened a new production plant in Cosmópolis (Brazil) – the 14th plant in the Christeyns Govi Group. The traditional ribbon was formally cut by Paul Bostoen, Chairman of the Executive Board, together with Mr José Pivatto, governor of the region. This 3 million euro investment is a logical consequence of the organic growth that the chemicals company is achieving. The new production unit is designed to enable the Bostoen family business to access new sales markets and areas.

“Christeyns was trading under its own name in Brazil since 2011. If you want to conquer the world, you cannot ignore this huge country with over 200 million residents. As a true hygiene specialist, our business exclusively focused on textile care. In the regions of both São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, we have already gained a market share of 15 percent. As the potential of textile care is so large and the markets of services such as hygienic cleaning in the Brazilian Food & Beverage sector were completely unexplored, we were confronted with a need to expand production capacity”, says Managing Director Jef Wittouck.

On the edge of a gigantic sales market
“Cosmópolis, the name of the provincial town where the plant is located, nicely aligns with our worldwide activities. More importantly, the site is only about 100 kilometres outside São Paolo, the largest urban agglomeration on the entire American continent. We acquired a production building of 2,300 square metres with another 240 square metres of office space. As our property extends to well over 8 hectares, we have enough space for future expansion if needed. Initially, this plant is intended for the production of detergents, laundry softeners and disinfection agents for textile care, the food and beverage industry and the institutional market. It also allows for manufacturing Oscrete products for the construction industry. This is a segment of our activities that shows rapid growth.”

State-of-the-art production site
“The detergents will be produced in stainless steel mixers. For chlorine products, we have a special plastic mixer. Based on computer-driven dosing systems, for each formula we release the right quantities and soft water into the mixers. On site we developed a high-precision weighing system, enabling us to correctly fill any quantity, from 20-litre cans to 1,000-litre containers. Within this concept, we naturally take local environmental permits into consideration. No pollutants are released during the production processes. In summary, we have a state-of-the-art, flexible, reliable high-performance production unit. The maximum capacity currently amounts to 400 tons per month per shift. The new production site currently employs twenty people.
