Glutaraldehyde and quaternary ammonium-based disinfectants are chemicals suitable for disinfecting surfaces, equipment and devices in the food industry, as well as on farms, where effective disinfection is required. These two active ingredients are effective against a wide range of micro-organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Glutaraldehyde
Glutaraldehyde is a broad-spectrum chemical disinfecting agent commonly used in disinfection and cold sterilisation.
Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs)
Quaternary ammoniums are biocide active substances used as surface disinfectants. These compounds are effective in killing a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses. QACs are commonly used in environments where safety is a concern, such as in the food industry and on farms, as they are less toxic than other chemical disinfectants and relatively long-lasting residual activity.
Quaternary ammoniums are also used to get a high standard of biosecurity.
