Since 1997, SLI Blanchisserie in the Vendée region has been providing laundry services to a diverse customer base including bars, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and car garages. However, like many in the textile care industry, they faced a significant challenge when it came to meeting France’s stringent regulations on Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).
The challenge – In France, the maximum allowable concentration of COD is 2000 mgO2/l. For SLI, surpassing this limit wasn’t an option. Director Stéphane Maurice knew action was necessary: “We didn’t have much choice, either close the laundry or find a solution to reduce the concentration below 2000 mgO2/l.”
The solution – “In 2018, Christeyns offered us a solution by implementing its EPIC detergency system across all three of our wash tunnels. EPIC consists of two pillars: a super-concentrated detergent and enzymatic blends produced on-site by the EPIX unit. By replacing our Cool Care detergent with Cool EPIC, we were able to reduce surfactants by 50%. Additionally, the on-site EPIX unit doses enzymatic blends in very small quantities based on the type of stain with over 99% accuracy.”
The result – “We immediately noticed a decrease in our COD concentration, well below the legal limit. What’s more, our fresh water consumption dropped from 6,23 litres/kg of linen to 5,20 liters/kg, saving approximately 6000 m³ of water per year. The icing on the cake? The impeccable quality of the linen!”
