Christeyns joins sustainable waste management project FIC-FIGHTERS
Christeyns is proud to announce its partnership with the FIC-FIGHTERS project, a pioneering initiative dedicated to developing sustainable waste management practices.
By joining this initiative, which focuses on developing circular economy models to prioritise the valorisation of waste materials and reduce environmental impact by converting phosphogypsum (PG) waste (and other industrial by-products) into valuable raw materials used in various industries such as paper, cement, batteries, fertilisers and cleaning products, Christeyns is naturally extending its commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental protection.
Over a four-year period, the project will engage local stakeholders, industry, government, SMEs, research and technology development centres and universities to implement scalable waste recovery processes. The initiative brings together 25 partners and one associate partner from 11 European countries. These partners include local communities, industry, NGOs and government agencies. By engaging a diverse group of stakeholders, the project will build sustainable urban environments and create jobs, contributing to economic recovery from recent global challenges.
The FIC-FIGHTERS project is funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. It supports the European Green Deal by demonstrating large-scale circular and systemic solutions for the regeneration of six local PG stacks in Europe.
Through the use of innovative chemical pathways and industrial CO2 capture, the project will create new business opportunities by producing high-value commercial products, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting climate-neutral practices among citizens.
The project’s comprehensive approach will enhance knowledge transfer across European cities and regions, facilitate the replication and scalability of systemic solutions, and ultimately accelerate the transition to sustainable and resilient urban ecosystems.
We are honoured to be part of this transformative project and look forward to contributing to a more sustainable future.
