Christeyns Press Release
Christeyns increase energy saving portfolio
In addition to an increased number of water recycling options offered since the JohnsonDiversey takeover, Christeyns has now further expanded the range of energy saving equipment it offers to the industry and now offers a second type of heat exchanger as well as a steam recovery unit.
The Heat-X Rotor is a self-cleaning, maintenance-free heat exchanger and enables dramatic savings in energy costs. It is suitable for even the dirtiest waste water and is easily installed as part of an integrated process on tunnel washers, heating cold fresh water for use in the rinse zone thus producing savings of up to 50% on CBW energy usage. Additionally, the hot rinsing achieved increases the efficiency of the rinsing process, resulting in a significant saving in water consumption. By rinsing hot, textile temperatures and press efficiency will also increase, thereby reducing levels of residual moisture in the linen and providing energy savings of up to 20% in drying and finishing.
Lower residual moisture in textiles also shortens drying and finishing processing times, producing potential increases in productivity. The other effect of the heat exchanger is to reduce waste water temperatures, often helping the laundry to comply with legal requirements on maximum effluent temperatures.
The Heat-X Rotor is built with extremely robust stainless steel and has no wearing parts. All units are very flexible in terms of flow and temperatures and can stand pressures up to 4 bar. The installation can be performed by the laundry's own engineers quite easily.
More recently the company has started to offer the Heat-X Energo. This unit is based on shell & tube technology and has been specifically designed to handle industrial effluent with large amounts of lint. Internal design ensures that the heated surface remains spotless at all times and the continuous high turbulence improves heat transfer. An automatic and completely integrated back-flush system ensures that any deposits on the effluent IN and OUT ports are immediately eliminated by shortly reversing the effluent flow on a regular (programmable) basis. As with the Heat-X Rotor the unit is built with high quality stainless steel and can be used at pressures up to 9 bar.
In addition Christeyns has just launched the Steam-X which can reduce the energy bill by surprisingly high amounts simply by recovering lost flash steam for the washing process. The system is viable in all laundries with tunnel washers and requires very little floor space.
The first unit was recently installed at a laundry in Belgium which was experiencing boiler capacity problems and having to reduce the speed of the ironers due to insufficient steam pressure. The laundry is looking to expand its daily tonnage this year and was considering buying a new boiler to match the increased requirements. However by installing the Steam-X, they are now heating the tunnel washer with indirect steam recovered from the condensate by the Steam-X. The direct steam from the boiler can now be used for the drying process only. Ironer speeds have increased and the linen is now dryer than before. More interestingly the gas consumption has decreased from 600 m 3 to 500 m 3 per day. The new tunnel washer has been ordered for later this year and will run on the Sanoxy system. By investing in a Heat-X Rotor the laundry will still be able to run both tunnels and ironers and still have spare boiler capacity. Good news for the two owners whose investment is already paying dividends!
